The hikers have no idea. The aliens have been here the whole time. Studying Strange Local Behavior is the cleverest role-reversal in the Escape Civilization collection — and one of the most original alien designs you'll find anywhere. Two extraterrestrials crouch behind a trail sign at the edge of a mountain forest path, completely committed to their fieldwork. One peers around the signpost. The other takes careful notes. Their subjects — two human hikers with trekking poles and full packs — walk off down the trail, blissfully unaware they are being scientifically documented. Snow-capped mountains rise in the background. Pine trees frame the scene. The trail stretches into the distance. And somewhere in the notes: findings inconclusive — behavior very strange. Vintage black-and-white etching style with rich detail throughout. The design works on multiple levels: a straight-up funny shirt, a subtle commentary on humans being the weird ones, and a great inside joke for anyone who spends a lot of time outdoors and wonders what's really out there. Perfect for hikers, trail runners, backpackers, bird watchers, nature observers, science and biology humor lovers, and anyone with a healthy appreciation for being watched. Part of the Escape Civilization collection.

From Concept to Field Issue
Illustration & Design
Every badge, print, and patch begins as hand-drawn artwork in our studio. We reference vintage National Parks Service documentation, topographic maps, and field sketches from actual wilderness surveys.
Material Selection
We test blanks from multiple manufacturers against field conditions: wash cycles, UV exposure, abrasion from pack straps, and temperature extremes. Only materials that survive our standards become part of the catalog.
On-Demand Production
Each order is printed individually in our Pacific Northwest facility. This eliminates overproduction waste and ensures every piece receives individual quality inspection before packing.
Field Verification
Selected items are issued to our volunteer field team for real-world testing. Feedback from actual wilderness observation posts informs updates to sizing, fabric weight, and print placement.
All cotton blanks are sourced from manufacturers certified under the Better Cotton Initiative. Water-based screen print inks eliminate PVC and phthalates. Archival poster papers are FSC-certified and acid-free.
